Enjoying tea with the king: from the colonial plantation to the royal table

Guided tour and tea ceremony

Veranstaltung „Teegenuss beim König“ in den Neuen Kammern

Veranstaltung „Teegenuss beim König“ in den Neuen Kammern

Tea drinking was invented long ago in China and Chinese tea was one of the most valuable imported goods in early modern Europe. Later, tea also came from India, a consequence of British colonial policy. During a guided tour in the Botanical Garden, garden educator Steffen Ramm explains the origin of the tea plant and tea as a colonial product. A walk afterwards to the New Chambers raises the anticipation of a tea ceremony at a royal table in the magnificent Blue Gallery with high-quality KPM porcelain and delicious pies. Bernd Maether from the Königliche Tafelfreuden will accompany the tea ceremony with stories about tea and baroque sounds.

In cooperation with the Botanical Garden of the University of Potsdam.
