Decolonial perspectives in the museum palace

Racism-critical tour for educators and cultural mediators with Patricia Vester

Dekoloniale Perspektiven im Museumsschloss

Dekoloniale Perspektiven im Museumsschloss

What is and what is needed for cultural mediation that is critical of racism?

By looking at baroque palace rooms and works of art from the 18th and 19th centuries, we will examine colonial references and situate ourselves. In a joint exchange, we will address the question of how these topics should be presented in castles and museums today and how they should be discussed when dealing with material cultural assets. The framework conditions for educational work critical of racism will also be discussed: How do we raise awareness of racism and disadvantage? How do we create "safe spaces" in which everyone feels seen and read and can express themselves freely? What is needed for empowerment?

Patricia Vester develops educational concepts that are critical of racism, is a diversity trainer, offers process support and develops artistic and creative teaching methods. In 2023, she was involved as an artist and cultural mediator in the special exhibition "Castles. Prussia. Colonial." of the SPSG.Translated with DeepL
