‘Palace, Park, Workers‘ Neighbourhood’ - Around the Käthe Kollwitz Museum.

An encounter with art, history, architecture and Charlottenburg's ‘Red Island’

The experienced city guide Marianne Mielke leads you through the neighbourhood around the Kollwitz Museum. You will learn interesting facts about Charlottenburg Palace, the war damage and the reconstruction, but also about the development of the neighbourhood opposite the palace, which was characterised by tenements over 100 years ago. You will gain interesting insights into the working-class neighbourhood, where many backyards were home to craft businesses, haulage companies, cowsheds and real factory buildings such as the sausage factory at Knobelsdorffstraße 15. The traditional Engelhardt brewery brewed its ‘Charlottenburger Pilsener’ in Danckelmannstraße until 1983.
