Book presentation and talk with Günter Karl Bose

The book written and illustrated by Günter Karl Bose (*1951) about Franz Kafka im Ostseebad Müritz [1923], (Quintus-Verlag 2024) was recently published – a literary and aesthetic treasure. It is astonishing how closely the historical events presented in the book are linked to the current exhibition on Noa Eshkol at the Georg Kolbe Museum: Franz Kafka spent the summer of 1923 in the Baltic resort of Müritz, where he met Dora Diamant, his last love. She worked with Jewish children in the recreation home there – just like the young Tile Rössler, a hitherto less prominent figure in Kafka’s cosmos. We will be paying special attention to her during the event, as she was Noa Eshkol’s dance teacher in Tel Aviv in the 1940s.

You can look forward to an afternoon discussion about Franz Kafka and his friendships in the Ostseebad Müritz (in the museum garden if the weather is nice, otherwise in the large atelier).

About the author:

Günter Karl Bose studied German and political science in Freiburg i. Br., was a publisher in Berlin (Brinkmann & Bose) from 1980 to 1995 and Professor of Typography and Head of the Institute of Book Art at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig from 1993 to 2018. He has also worked as a designer since the early 1980s. His graphic works have been shown in exhibitions in Germany and abroad and can be found in the collections of the Center Pompidou, Paris, the Kunstbibliothek Berlin, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg. He has written numerous studies on media and cultural studies.
