The Jewish Almanac has been published annually by Jüdischer Verlag at Suhrkamp since 1993 and is dedicated to various aspects of Jewish culture, history and the present. This year, the Almanac is not only being published in the shadow of October 7, 2023 and the events that followed, but also deliberately focuses on them as a central theme. This is because the "Black Shabbat", as October 7 is also known, represents an unprecedented turning point for Israelis and Jews worldwide.
Gisela Dachs, editor of the almanac, will begin the event by presenting a series of images from the volume that show the changing urban face of Tel Aviv since October 7. This will be followed by a discussion between the Berlin-based Israeli author Assaf Uni and Gisela Dachs, moderated by Tamara Or, Director of the German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation. In the absence of Israeli author David Grossman, his text will be read by Christian Berkel.

The event is being organized in cooperation with the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem and the Jewish publishing house Suhrkamp Verlag.
