Art at the beginning of the 20th century changed perspectives and broke down boundaries with its new image of humanity. Visual art, literature, music and architecture merge in artistic processes. Berlin became an important place for newly emerging art movements.
Expressionists such as Otto Möller and Gottfried Benn expressed their subjective experience of the world in their paintings and poetry. Architecture also took expressionist paths. These led Otto Bartning, for example, to a completely new design for a sacred building with his crystal-like Sternkirche. Dada finally tore down the last conventions with collages, sound poems and chance music. This leads to unexpected ideas of what art can and may do.
We encounter all of this on a tour through the permanent exhibition, where we listen, touch and share our impressions with each other. We are excited and look forward to seeing you!
