After the end of Bruno and Paul Cassirer's successful art salon in 1901, Paul Cassirer took over the "Kunstanstalt und Kunstverlag" in Victoriastrasse in the historic Tiergarten district. It was not until 1909 that he began a new publication series with a total of nineteen "Works of the Pan Press". The lithographs, etchings and woodcuts in the books and portfolios were printed on the hand press by Ernst Barlach, Max Beckmann, Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt and others. A comparison of publishing strategies and bibliophile series reveals Paul Cassirer's particular avant-garde calculation between the art trade and the publishing house.
