Plankton immerses the audience in a magical underwater world. The title, from an Ancient Greek word meaning ‘that which wanders around’, refers to the micro-organisms that live at the bottom of the sea. Plankton are among the few living creatures that do not have the power to move independently; they are just pulled along by the ocean current. The dance and images making up this impressive choreography are characterized by the floating, flowing and drifting movements of colourful, luminous sea dwellers. The piece encourages a young audience to consider new forms of expression and invites the children to develop their own powers of imagination and interpretation via the action. In dance terms, it explores ideas of floating and letting yourself be moved. Detail is all important: The focus here is directed on to minor features that would otherwise go unnoticed.
