Ein MitTanzDing
Ein Ceilidh war traditionell eine soziale Zusammenkunft, die ihre Wurzeln in Schottland und Irland hatte und nicht zwingend das Tanzen beinhaltete.

Vielmehr traf man sich, um Geschichten zu erzählen, Gedichte vorzutragen und zu singen. Im Laufe der Zeit allerdings wurden die Musik und der Tanz immer wichtiger und bestimmen heute das Hauptprogramm der Zusammenkünfte.
Es werden Jigs, Reels, Polkas, Line-, Square- und Circle-Tänze getanzt zu Livemusik von Melodeons, Fiddles, Whistles und vielen anderen traditionellen Instrumenten.
Beim modernen E-Ceilidh werden meistens traditionelle Tanz-Sets getanzt, die Musik dazu kann aber durchaus von einem Mix aus traditionellen und modernen Instrumenten gespielt werden, z.B. Melodeon, Fiddle, E-Bass und Schlagwerk. Der Beat der Musik ist üblicherweise sehr lebhaft, die Tänze voller Energie und dabei leicht zu erlernen, auch ohne tänzerische Vorkenntnisse.
