“About a Woman” is a play about oppression and the subsequent struggle for emancipation. In order to explain her situation, the actress ventures back in time and confronts the forces of patriarchy. As a self-confident artist, she irritates the male-dominated population and breaks through the prevailing image of women. She finally wants to stand on her own two feet without being pushed around again and again. She finally wants to present her art without being reduced to her gender and categorised.
The performer finally finds her strength in herself. The process of this self-realisation is danced out on stage. Only when she frees herself from the pressure of constantly having to conform and pretend does she manage to live - on her own two feet, with her own will.
The play is intended to inspire and encourage people to change the static gender roles to such an extent that each person can find their place in the world without having to change or justify themselves to anyone.
