Traditional Christmas concert | Corelli Chamber Orchestra

On the third weekend of Advent, the Corelli Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Béla Papp welcomes you to its traditional Christmas concert. Baroque treasures by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Tomaso Albinoni and Pietro Locatelli await you once again in the historic ballroom of Schloss Britz.

With the Corelli Chamber Orchestra, visitors will hear music that touches the soul in its performance. Béla Papp and his Corelli Chamber Orchestra are characterized by unusually lively and stylistically confident interpretations of the delicate music of the high baroque to the early classical period at the highest level, both technically and musically brilliant.

The Corelli Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1982 by the Hungarian violinist and first concertmaster of the former East Berlin Radio Orchestra Béla Papp and has had an unpredictable history. After the turmoil at the beginning of the 1990s and due to the dissolution of the East Berlin Radio Orchestra, only a small core remained around its founder and artistic director. However, Béla Papp quickly succeeded in finding new and committed musicians for the Corelli Chamber Orchestra. The artists come from orchestras in Berlin and the surrounding area. It includes some particularly talented students from both Berlin music academies. The ensemble plays all stylistic periods at the highest level and is flexible enough to adapt the instrumentation to every possible task.

Béla Papp was born in Hungary in 1949 and learned to play the violin from his father according to old traditions. After graduating from the "Zoltán Kodály" Conservatory in Debrecen, he studied at the "Franz Liszt" Academy in Budapest, as a guest student at the Moscow Academy of Music and then as a master student of Prof. György Garay at the Academy of Music in Budapest. György Garay at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Academy of Music and Theater in Leipzig. After completing his studies in 1973, he was engaged as concertmaster with various German orchestras.
