Merve Akyıldız returns to Ballhaus Naunynstraße! Now with her own band!
Merve Akyıldız studied piano at the Antalya State Conservatory and also took lessons in jazz harmony before developing her own style. The Babylon Orchester Berlin invited her to Berlin as a soloist in 2021; the composer and bağlama player Nevzat Akpınar brought her to Ballhaus Naunynstraße for the first time in 2023 as one of his musical friends. In spring 2024, the two of them performed an evening as a duo – and it was a wonderful concert.
Now Merve Akyıldız is bringing her own band project to Ballhaus Naunynstraße: based on traditional songs from Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Greece, Merve Akyıldız transforms the Balkan sound into jazz, pop and electronic music. It is a roller-coaster of emotions from sadness to exuberant joy that Merve Akyıldız creates with her band; rhythmically driving and sometimes gentle and with room for a capella.
And when, like Merve Akyıldız, you refer so consciously to the shared cultural heritage of several countries, it becomes a message – the evening is a celebration of cross-border connections and cross-genre cooperation!
Merve Akyıldız, vocals and piano, will be accompanied by Can Tüfekçioglu on drums, Vladimir Karparov on saxophone, Francesco Beccaro on bass guitar, and Alexey Wagner on guitar.
Artists/Collaborators: Selda Hamdemir (Produktionsleitung), Francesco Beccaro, Vladimir Karparov, Can Tüfekcioglu, Alexey Wagner
