ALEXIS KOSSENKO & ENSEMBLE

Rediscovered: Chamber Music by Eugène Walckiers

When Alexis Kossenko, one of the leading protagonists of historically informed performance practice in France, discovered the music of the forgotten Belgian composer and fellow flutist Eugène Walckiers (1793–1866) a few years ago, he instantly realized he had found something special: “Music of unusual boldness, phrases of extraordinary lyricism, surprising modulations, dramatic ruptures, true inspiration paired with humor, wit, and a cheerful spirituality that seemed capable of great things and yet seemed not to take itself too seriously.” Leading an ensemble of acclaimed musicians, Kossenko introduces Walckiers’s chamber music for flute and strings to Pierre Boulez Saal audiences.
