Spirited Away

The Simple Music Ensemble World will perform Joe Hisaishi's music from Hayao Miyazaki's Oscar-winning animated film "Spirited away" in their own unique arrangements. These melodies will transport the audience into Miyazaki's magical world, where evil is always stronger at first, but good always wins in the end.

"Spirited away" is a cult work by the great Japanese storyteller Hayao Miyazaki. It was the first film to win the Oscar for best feature-length animated film. It is the story of a little girl who finds herself in a mysterious world and has to overcome many challenges to save her parents from the charms of an evil sorceress.

Every Miyazaki animated film is its own world with its own rules, philosophy and ideas. An important part of Miyazaki's artistic language is the magical music by composer Joe Hisaishi, who acts as his full co-writer. He wrote the soundtrack not after the movie was made, but parallel to it. The composer was given a brief description of the movie, based on which he composed the music. Hisaishi used everything from orchestral melodies to advanced Japanese electronics from the eighties.
