The ferry to Peacock Island in southwest Berlin takes visitors from the banks of the Havel River to the fairytale island.
The Peacock Island ferry in southwest Berlin connects the island in the middle of the Havel River with the mainland. The crossing only takes a few minutes. Established in 1821, the ferry to Peacock Island is the oldest ferry line in Berlin.
Peacock Island (Pfaueninsel) is a world of its own: the islands features a fairytale castle and many free-roaming animals. From the ferry pier at the southern end of the island, a narrow path leads past lush roses and dense trees to the palace, which was built in 1794. From the palace's playful-looking towers, an impressive view over the wide Havel River opens up for visitors. Free-roaming peacocks live on the island, and water buffaloes eat through the greenery as natural lawnmowers in the swampy part of the meadow.
The ferry "Luise", which takes visitors from the mainland to the island, can accommodate up to 150 passengers. The ferry departs from a small headland at Düppeler Forst in Berlin's Wannsee district. Because of the protected flora and fauna, dogs and bicycles are not allowed on Peacock Island.
The ferry ride costs 6 Euros (reduced fare 5 Euros). Tickets are available at the pier and can also be purchased online in advance. The price includes admission to Peacock Island. The ferry is operated by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, so BVG tickets are not valid here. The ferry runs as needed, about every 15 minutes.
The pier of the Peacock Island ferry is located west of the Wannsee S-Bahn station. From there, the bus line 218 goes to the Pfaueninsel bus stop.
