Wegner at the Berlin Marathon 2023

The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (CDU), congratulated the Berlin Marathon on its 50th birthday and honoured it as the "fastest course in the world" with 13 world records.

"50 years of sport, fun and lots of records," Wegner emphasised with a view to the marathon weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The Marathon started small in 1974 and has developed into one of the most important sporting events in Berlin. Tens of thousands of runners, skaters, wheelchair users, spectators, music bands and the many volunteers make the marathon an unforgettable experience.
