The public participation process for the future of Tempelhofer Feld has started. Currently, 20,000 randomly drawn Berliners whose primary residence is listed in the residents' register are receiving a letter inviting them to take part in the dialog process. This was announced by the Senate Department for Urban Development and Building on Friday.
In the next step, up to 275 people are to be drawn by lot from the group of interested parties to take part in so-called dialog workshops on Tempelhofer Feld. However, they are not to decide whether or not to build on the edges of Tempelhofer Feld, explained Christian Gaebler (SPD), Senator for Urban Development. Instead, theses for the future development of Tempelhofer Feld are to be drawn up in the dialog workshops over three weekends.
This should take into account how it has been used to date and how the anticipated demand for residential construction will develop. Other aspects include the participants' usage wishes and the significance of the historic airport building with regard to the consequences for the development and use of the site. The results are to be incorporated into the terms of reference for the subsequent international planning ideas competition.
Gaebler presented the plans for the ideas competition and the citizens' workshop on Tempelhofer Feld at the beginning of December. On that occasion, it was said that it would start in April with up to 500 Berliners.
