S-Bahn closure between Friedrichstraße and Ostbahnhof

Friedrichstraße Berlin

An S-Bahn train leaves Friedrichstraße station in Berlin and crosses a bridge over the river Spree.

Due to construction work, there will be no more S-Bahn trains between Friedrichstraße and Ostbahnhof stations from this Thursday at 10 pm up to and including 6 November 2023.

"Buses are running for the S-Bahn lines in this section. Regional services (RE1, RE2, RE7, RE8 and RB23) can also be used in this section as an alternative," the railway announced on Monday. Among other things, 100 metres of track and several points between the Friedrichstraße and Hackescher Markt stations will be renewed during this time.

Effects on the entire S-Bahn traffic on the urban railway line

Between Friedrichstraße and Zoologischer Garten, only the S3 and the S9 run every ten minutes. The railway recommends changing to the Ringbahn, which will also be interrupted between Halensee and Gesundbrunnen on the weekend of 27 to 30 October. The replacement bus service will not stop at Hackescher Markt, but at the tram stop "Spandauer Straße/Marienkirchstraße".
