Batons, knives, drugs: During large-scale checks at Berlin railway stations on Saturday night, the Federal Police discovered and confiscated a number of dangerous objects.
A spokeswoman for the federal police said this morning that a total of 40 offences had been reported, including one dangerous assault, one insult and two unauthorised entries. 168 police officers were on duty.
The Federal Police had issued a general order banning the carrying of "dangerous objects" at the train stations Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz, Ostbahnhof, Warschauer Straße, Ostkreuz and Treptower Park this weekend. This refers to "objects which, due to their objective nature, are capable of causing serious injury". These include firearms, cutting and stabbing weapons. The order also applies from 4 p.m. on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The background to the general order was the increase in violent offences in certain places, especially at weekends, when conflicts easily escalated under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, said the federal police spokeswoman. On Twitter, the police published some of the confiscated items, including brass knuckles, batons, knives of all kinds and a homemade fist knife.
