Commission clears the way for 900 apartments in Tempelhof

The Berlin Senate Commission on Accelerating Housing Construction has cleared the way for another major housing project.

This was announced by Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey on Tuesday after what is now the tenth meeting of the commission. Around 900 apartments are to be built in Tempelhof, 260 of them publicly subsidized. The project includes a daycare center and accommodation for refugees with 300 places.

Tempelhof sand lizards relocated to Schönefeld

The interdepartmental Senate Commission is trying to remove obstacles that have so far delayed the start of construction. In the present case, it has succeeded in relocating the sand lizards living on the site to a habitat in Schönefeld. The species is strictly protected. It is prohibited to destroy their habitats. "We have managed through this clarification and this Berlin-Brandenburg cooperation that there are no delays in the start of construction," Giffey said. This is scheduled for May, she said. The apartments are to be completed by March 2026.
