The Berlin Bäderbetriebe want to start refurbishing three public pools this year.

In addition to the wave pool on Spreewaldplatz in Kreuzberg, which will be renovated starting in May, the Schöneberg municipal pool and the indoor pool on Zingster Straße in Hohenschönhausen will also be renovated, the state-owned company announced.

152 million euros for renovations

According to Berliner Bäderbetriebe, a total of 152 million euros will be available for projects already underway and the three planned. "This is an enormous sum that enables us to invest comprehensively in the pools in a way that was not possible before," says Chairman of the Board Johannes Kleinsorg.

Largest single investment in company history

The 42 million euro renovation of the Wellenbad on Spreewaldplatz is the largest single investment in the company's history. In addition to the basic renovation, the redesign of the sauna area is planned, according to the report. The roof is to be newly insulated and a photovoltaic system installed. A height-adjustable floor in the plunge pool is also planned so that it can be used for courses.

Work at Stadtbad Schöneberg in early summer

Revonation work at the Stadtbad Schöneberg is to begin in early summer. There, the windows are to be replaced and the ventilation systems renewed. The pools will receive new tiles. Starting in the fall, the pools at the Zingster Straße swimming pool will be lined with stainless steel and the recreation areas will be renovated.

Numerous renovation works at Berlin pools

The roof of the Sewanstraße swimming pool is currently being replaced while the facility remains in operation. Larger repairs are due at the Wilmersdorf I municipal pool and the Mariendorf combined pool. The summer pool at the Spandau Süd combination pool is also in need of renovation. Further partial or complete refurbishments are planned for the coming years, including at the Stadtbad Mitte, the summer pool at Insulaner and the Kombibad Mariendorf. New buildings are also being planned, for example the multifunctional pool in Pankow.
