On the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, thousands of people want to demonstrate against Russia and the war in Berlin on Friday. Numerous demonstration marches and rallies have been announced, especially in the city centre at the government district around the Brandenburg Gate.

A demonstration with several hundred participants is to start at 12 noon at the Neptunbrunnen in Mitte on the occasion of the anniversary of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, according to the Traffic Information Centre (VIZ). The demonstration is to run from Spandauer Straße via Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Unter den Linden via Wilhelmstraße, Reichstagufer and Paul-Löbe-Allee to the Platz der Republik. The event is expected to last until 3 pm.

Large demonstration to mark anniversary of Russian attack on Ukraine

Extensive road closures are expected from 4pm during a large demonstration against the Russian war of aggression starting from Karl-Marx-Allee. 12,500 participants have been registered. The demonstration is expected to proceed via Schillingstraße and Strausberger Platz, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Unter den Linden, Wilhelmstraße, Reichstagufer, Paul-Löbe-Allee, Heinrich-von-Gagern-Straße, Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße and Straße des 17. Juni. to the Brandeburg Gate.

Rally at the Brandenburg Gate

At the Brandenburg Gate, a final rally under the slogan "Stand with Ukraine" is planned from 6 pm, again with more than 12,000 demonstrators. Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey and the Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev will also take part with greetings. The boulevard Unter den Linden will be closed to traffic in the direction of Alexanderplatz between Wilhelmstraße and Glinkastraße. According to the VIZ, Behrenstraße is also expected to be closed. The event is scheduled to end at 8 pm.

Further closures: Demonstration from Potsdamer Platz in the afternoon

A pro-Palestinian demonstration is scheduled to begin at Potsdamer Platz at 4 pm. Traffic disruptions are to be expected along the route Stresemannstraße, Anhalter Straße, Wilhelmstraße, Kochstraße, Rudi-Dutschke-Straße, Oranienstraße to Oranienplatz.
