Berlin gets tax office for foreign companies

Finanzamt

Berlin is to get a tax office for foreign companies. The start is planned for August 2023, as a spokesperson for the tax administration said on Monday.

In agreement with the other federal states, Berlin is responsible for the registration of companies from around 100 countries that trade in Germany and are liable for VAT, but do not have a registered office here, like online traders. At the top of the list of countries is China.

Registration of companies from around 100 countries

Up to now, the tax office in Neukölln has been responsible for the registration of such companies. According to the tax authorities, about 150 employees are entrusted with this field of work, supported by about 40 employees from other Berlin tax offices.

"Berlin International Tax Office" to be located in Neukölln

According to the tax authorities, the tax office in Neukölln receives around 650 applications for new registration every week. A total of about 110,000 online traders are now registered there. The decision for the new "Berlin International Tax Office" had already been made last year in view of the constantly growing tasks. It is also to be located in Neukölln near the existing tax office.
