Domäne Dahlem - Estate and Museum

Domäne Dahlem

Berlin's unique open-air museum of agrarian history was founded and has been operating since 1976.

Dedicated to farming and agriculture and pre-industrial crafts the museum is a favourite family oasis and an ideal area for children to explore informally the relation between food which appears on the plate and food production in a natural setting.

The large estate, cantered on this former 16th century Dahlem manor house is ideal for a long Sunday stroll. It is also a functioning organic farm whose products are sold on site, outdoors with stalls giving the feel of a small countryside market place. Time can flow by feeding the chicks and visiting a variety of typical farm animals including pigs and chicken, shopping around for fresh eggs, choosing a typical German wholesome bread loaf and otherwise exploring around.

Volunteers are available for demonstrations of the workings of rural agricultural machinery, handicrafts and household produce including honey. The restored 1560’s manor on site is one of Berlin’s oddest buildings and small festivals bring the whole to life including spinning, weaving, pottery demonstrations and even a medieval iron furnace.

The most popular regular event is the organic farmers’ market from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. Please make sure that the market takes place by checking the the official website of the the museum.
