Potsdamer Platz became a new centre of Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall: the Sony Center, the Potsdamer Platz Arcaden, theatres, casinos, cafés, cinemas, restaurants and hotels have been newly built here. Potsdamer Platz thus continues its legendary period in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. Due to war damage and its location right next to the Wall, Potsdamer Platz was a wasteland for decades, on which only the ruins of the famous Hotel Esplanade stood.
