Berlkönig is the ridesharing service of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and takes up to six people through eastern Berlin.
The Berlkönig is an offer that works on the shared taxi principle. Up to six people with a similar destination can share the journey in one car, because the individual routes of the passengers are efficiently bundled. Only short detours are accepted. The Berlkönig doesn't drive from door to door - boarding and alighting from the exact starting and destination point deviates by an average of 200 metres.
The easiest way to use the service of Berlkönig is to download the free app of the provider. Here, personal data is requested and a payment method such as credit card, Paypal or credit is specified. The booking of the ride is done in two steps. First, the starting and destination points of the trip must be specified and then the displayed price must be accepted. The app now displays the virtual stop, the point of boarding for the trip. If you want to use Berlkönig without the app, you can also book trips at computer terminals in the BVG customer centres.
The fare is calculated according to the distance between the starting point and destination. The underlying standard price is 1.5 euros per kilometre. The minimum price is 4.00 Euro, passengers on the same booking pay half. Payment for the ride is possible via the app using a credit card or PayPal. In addition, vouchers can be purchased in the BVG centres, which can be topped up as credit in the app.
As long as the first test phase continues, the Berlkönig's vehicles will run on the eastern Berlin S-Bahn ring. If the Berlkönig becomes a regular service of the BVG as planned, the transport radius will be extended to the entire city area. The vehicle fleet currently comprises 150 cars, half of which are electric. By the end of 2020, all journeys will be offered by electric cars. The vehicle fleet comprises five cars with a ramp, so that barrier-free journeys can be booked.
The Berlkönig service is always available from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and continuously from 7 a.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Monday morning on weekends.
