From 2024 to 2027, the Afrikamera film festival will focus on four consecutive themes: Believe, Change, Reflect and Create.
Contemporary cinema from Africa has been on the upswing for years. The festival aims to showcase the diverse, inspiring, pioneering and sometimes contradictory perspectives from society and politics on the African continent. The 2024 motto is «Believe».
In the first year of the four-year themed series, the works shown revolve around the topics of faith, spirituality and self-empowerment. In current cinematic productions, filmmakers tackle the complex of themes in different ways and with different approaches. In the opening film "The Village Next to Paradise" by Mo Harawe, the members of a patchwork family search for their own way to navigate through the adversities of life. Love, trust and confidence play a central role here.
With an annually changing thematic focus, the festival deals with issues that move young African filmmakers. The 2024 motto is “Believe”.
