The Holzmarkt celebrates Día de los Muertos with an altar, cultural program, Mexican delicacies and a fiesta.
The Holzmarkt on the Spree is both colorful and reflective. The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is traditionally an opportunity to celebrate life together - with bright colors, cheerful music and joyful memories. According to belief, the souls of deceased loved ones return to their families on Día de los Muertos. An altar or gift table is erected on the market square of the Holzmarkt. The highlight of the festival takes place on 1 and 2 November with a wide-ranging cultural program. Visitors can look forward to poetry and live music, face painting and performances as well as numerous Mexican delicacies. Those interested can also learn how to make calveritas. The small sugar skulls are traditionally used as decorations on the Day of the Dead.
