A Night at the Cemetery in Mitte

Trauerengel und Kreuz auf einem Friedhof

The historic Sophien II cemetery in Mitte is transformed into an atmospheric stage for a summer evening full of culture during the Cemetery Night.

The cemetery in Bergstraße is home to the graves of numerous celebrities - such as Carl Bechstein, Johanna Stegen, Walter Kollo and Carl Mampe. They are honoured in a special way during the cemetery night: readings, musical performances, workshops or theatre performances take place at selected gravesites - all in white.

A Summer Night at the Cemetery

Visitors can enter from 7 pm, accompanied by the sounds of June Jam. At 8 pm, the official opening will take place in front of the chapel with a concert by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and a reading by Katharina Thalbach. Afterwards, visitors can follow the illuminated signposts to various gravesites, where various cultural offerings await - from exhibitions and poetry to short films and concerts. The final concert will be sung by the Berliner Liedertafel e.V. choir. Cool drinks and snacks will be provided by the Sensemann Bar and the Lisbeth Cemetery Café.
