Joana Mallwitz, the principal conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.

The Musikfest, which emerged from the traditional Berliner Festwochen, is Berlin's largest festival for orchestral music.

For the Musikfest Berlin, the city's concert halls will resound with classical music performed by renowned national and international orchestras, choirs and chamber ensembles. The festival not only attracts hundreds of musicians but also thousands of fans of classical music from all over the world.

Highlights at the Musikfest 2024*

  • The official opening concert of Musikfest 2024 will be presented by the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Thierry Fischer.
  • Franz Welser-Möst will lead the Cleveland Orchestra through works by Loggins-Hull, Adams and Prokofiev.
  • Pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard II presents works by Schönberg and Ives in a piano recital.
  • The Staatskapelle Berlin plays pieces by Saariaho and Mahler under the direction of Susanna Mälkki.
  • The vocal ensemble Exaudi presents chromatically enriched Renaissance music in St. Matthew's Church. The conductor is James Weeks.
  • The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will be a guest at the Musikfest for the first time. Conductor Christian Thielemann will lead the orchestra through Robert Schumann's Spring Symphony and - in keeping with the Bruckner Year 2024 - Anton Bruckner's First Symphony.
  • The Karajan Academy will play Olivier Messiaen's “Des Canyons aux étoiles...” under Sir Simon Rattle.
  • On the last day of the festival, Bruckner's Mass No. 1 in D minor, the Overture in G minor WAB 98 and several smaller works by the Austrian composer will be performed.
