Integrated into the Berliner Festspiele, the Jazzfest Berlin is the crowning finale of every jazz year. Over four days, there is a varied program for all jazz lovers, and not just at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

60 years of Jazzfest! Founded in 1964 as Jazztage (Jazz Days), the festival is one of the oldest jazz festivals in Europe. The 2024 motto is "Past - Present - Future". The jazz festival takes place at various venues throughout Berlin.

Over 60 years of Jazzfest Berlin

The Berliner Festspiele are celebrating 60 years of Jazzfest Berlin. Since 2018, curator and dramaturge Nadin Deventer has been the artistic director of Jazzfest Berlin. She took over from Richard Williams, who had headed the festival since 2015. From 2015 to 2017, Deventer worked for the Berliner Festspiele as head of organization for the artistic direction of the Jazzfest Berlin.

Jazzfest 2024: Highlights

The program of the 2024 Jazzfest is top-class as usual. This year's highlights (editorial selection):

• US pianist Marilyn Crispell performs a rare solo appearance at the opening concert on October 31 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
• New York saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin starts her European tour at the Quasimodo as part of the Jazzfest on October 31.
• A tribute to Tristan Hollinger will be performed in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on November 2. Double bassist Antonio Borghini and the Malacoda String Quartet will pay tribute to the important cellist with a lot of improvisation and singing.
• The Haus der Berliner Festspiele attracts true legends on November 2. Swedish saxophonist Anna Högberg's band "Attack" will open the evening with their usual striking and passionate melodies. The Joachim Kühn French Trio follows with a world premiere. The almost legendary Sun Ra Arkestra brings the evening to a brilliant finale.
• If you are in the mood for experimental underground music, you can listen to the multi-talented Otomo Yoshihide at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele on November 3.
