The buildings in the outer areas of Karow largely date back to the 1920s and 1930s, especially those around the S-Bahn station in the northwest.
Karow
The center of the former village still features numerous farmhouses from the 19th century as wells as an old church. Visual contrast is provided by the housing estates in Karow-North.
Karow-North
Starting in the 1990s, single-family and multi-family houses as well as apartment blocks with several stories were built on the former sewage fields in the north of Karow and on some wetlands in the southern and eastern parts. The most extensive housing project in Karow-North comprises more than 5,000 apartments. The neighborhood is also called New Karow by locals.
Suburban Settlement Buch
The suburban settlement Buch - not to be confused with Berlin-Buch in the district of Pankow - is also located in Karow. It is situated east of the Bucher Chaussee between the street Zum Kappgraben and the highway. It has the infrastructure of an independent settlement and mainly comprises semi-detached houses that were built after the settlement was established in 1932.
Karow Ponds
The northwest is home to the Karow Ponds (Karower Teiche), a nature reserve with water areas, hiking trails, and viewing platforms. The district of Karow is also very green in other areas: the Niederbarnim Landscape Park and the forests of the state of Brandenburg are in the immediate vicinity.
