Pankow: Residential areas & infrastructure

Close to the more lively and trendy Prenzlauer Berg, Pankow is a more tranquil district with a lot of greenery, upscale residential areas, and good public transport connections.

Residential Areas

Families and those who like things a little quieter will feel very comfortable in Pankow. The district features many green areas and even a couple of forests. Apartment buildings, city mansions, and single-family homes dominate the district, with a few prefabricated high-rises scattered in-between. The district's undeveloped open spaces have been and are being completely redeveloped in recent years. In some cases, thousands of apartments are being built.

Location

Pankow is located in the north of Berlin and borders on the state of Brandenburg in the far north. From here, it is just as easy to get to the eastern center of the capital as it is to get to the countryside.

Public Transport

The public transport network is quite well developed in the central areas of Pankow. Suburban trains, the subway, buses and trams all serve the district. The subway line U2 has two stops in Pankow, while the suburban train lines S25 and S85 serve the western and the lines S8 and S2 serve the eastern parts of Pankow.

Traffic Axes

The main traffic axes in Pankow are Mühlenstraße (later Dietzgenstraße), Blankenfelder Chaussee, Prenzlauer Promenade in north-east direction, and Wollankstraße/Breite Straße/Pasewalker Straße. The A114 highway provides a connection to the Berlin motorway ring.
