Hyun-Sook Song

Sprüth Magers in Berlin-Mitte is showing large-format paintings by South Korean artist Hyun-Sook Song.

Although the artist has lived in Germany for fifty years, Song's artistic approach is strongly influenced by Eastern philosophy and calligraphy as well as by her interaction with nature and the body. In a reduced formal language, each brushstroke stands for a unique movement and documents the artist's inner state of mind. By achieving a state of extreme concentration and meditation, Hyun-Sook Song views painting as a performative event. The Berlin exhibition at Sprüth Magers shows new and older paintings.
