On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death, the exhibition «Hell's Black and Starlight - Dante's Divine Comedy in Modern and Contemporary Art» is dedicated to the various forms of artistic engagement with Dante's main literary work.
In 2022, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of the Italian poet and philosopher Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett in the Kulturforum is showing a selection from two woodcut series from the 1920s. The selection of works on display ranges from the early 19th century to the present day. In addition to new acquisitions and donations, rarely shown collection holdings by Joseph Anton Koch, Ebba Holm, Klaus Wrage, Odilon Redon, Max Klinger, Wilhelm Lehmbruck and Andreas Siekmann, among others, are on display. The linocuts by the Dane Ebba Holm and the woodcuts by Klaus Wrage from the 1920s form the basic framework of the exhibition and allow the most important scenes of the Divine Comedy to be presented in a spotlight-like manner.
