The wild 20's - nightlife of an epoch

New Objectivity and Magical Realism: On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of a fascinating epoch, an exhibition shows important works of art from the «wild 20s».

The exhibition at the Kunstforum of the Berliner Volksbank aims to illustrate how these two formative art movements of the 1920s have influenced the artistic work of later generations up to the present day. A recurring motif of the New Objectivity and Magic Realism styles was the dazzling, sinful nightlife of the big cities.

The exhibition «The wild 20's - nightlife of an epoch» («Die wilden 20er - Nach(t)leben») shows works by Gudrun Brüne, Albrecht Gehse, Hubertus Giebe, Otto Gleichmann, Clemens Gröszer, Hartmut Neumann, Roland Nicolaus, Wolfgang Peuker, Bernhard Schultze, Volker Stelzmann, Christian Thoelke and Britta von Willert. The artworks are complemented by black and white photographs in the style of the 1920s by fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld.
