Francesca Woodman & Sophie Thun

Documentations of performances and life-size photograms of your own body: in two separate exhibitions, C/O Berlin is showing photographs by Francesca Woodman and Sophie Thun.

C/O Berlin presents works by two strong female voices in photography: Francesca Woodman & Sophie Thun.

Francesca Woodman plays with the many roles of women

The exhibition "Francesca Woodman: On Being an Angel" shows a cross-section of Woodman's work - from small-format black-and-white pictures and rare color photographs to his late, larger-than-life works. The photographs of the American artist are documentations of performances, with the camera as the only audience. But they are also complex and formally balanced compositions of the predominantly female body, which she stages together with lilies, shells or eels in dilapidated spaces - female and male symbols that she appropriates, reinterprets and deconstructs.

Female self-portrayal by Sophie Thun

Her own body, the self-timer, the camera: Sophie Thun uses her body as an instrument to question established concepts of society, gender and gender. Image space and real space seem to merge into one another and challenge the viewer's viewing habits. "Sophie Thun: Extension" at C/O Berlin is the first institutional solo exhibition of the 1985-born Viennese artist.

During the same period, C/O Berlin presents an exhibition of Linda McCartney entitled "The Polaroid Diaries".
