Katharina Grosse. It wasn’t us

Katharina Grosse is one of the stars of contemporary art. «Katharina Grosse. It wasn't us» shows a selection of her outstanding works in the historical hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof.

Using a spray gun and powerful acrylic paints, Katharina transforms large places and surfaces into oversized installations. The expansive works can be experienced as pulsating, three-dimensional pictorial worlds that include walls, ceilings and floors and can also occupy objects in space. In 2020 the artist will use the historical hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof as well as parts of the outdoor area for a new picture with sculptural elements, which will radically destabilize and renegotiate the existing order of the museum space.

About Katharina Grosse

Katharina Grosse was born in 1961 in Freiburg im Breisgau. She completed her studies at the Art Academy in Münster. In 1999 Grosse received the First Prize of the Deutsche Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken and in 2003 the Fred-Thieler-Prize of the Berlinische Galerie. This was followed by the Oskar Schlemmer Prize in 2014 and the Otto Ritschl Art Prize in 2015. Today Katharina Grosse lives and works in Berlin.
