Raphael in Berlin: The Madonnas of the Gemäldegalerie

2020 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of the Grand Master of Renaissance Art: Raphael. On the occasion of this jubilee, a big «Meeting of the Madonnas» will take place in the Gemäldegalerie.

From December 2019, the Berlin Gemäldegalerie will be showing five Madonna paintings from its collection in a cabinet exhibition, which will be supplemented by loans from the National Gallery in London and the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett. In the exhibition "Raphael in Berlin: The Madonnas of the Gemäldegalerie", the round picture of the Madonna Terranuova (c. 1505) together with Raphael's drawing of the Head of the Madonna Terranuova from the Kupferstichkabinett will also be on view for the first time.
