The exhibition at Martin-Gropius-Bau displays works of art that deal with the concept of demarcation through borders and barriers 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
For the exhibition "Walking through walls", contemporary artists present their works on the theme of walls, demarcations and divisions. Sculptures, video and light installations show the different approaches to the subject. Fittingly, Martin-Gropius-Bau stood on the border between East and West Berlin until German reunification in 1990.
In the exhibition, the artists deal with the psychological and physical effects of division of living space. They follow the question of how borders and divisions contribute to individual and collective identity. The installations sometimes reflect the fragile balance in which man-made barriers exist. Others reflect the human and social feelings of fear and vulnerability expressed in walls and boundaries.
Works by Jose Dávila, Mona Hatoum, Nadia Kaabi-Linke, Christian Odzuck, Anri Sala, Regina Silveira and other artists are shown at "Walking through walls". The exhibition is curated by Till Fellrath and Sam Bardaouil, founders of the platform Art Reoriented.
