Saul Leiter. David Lynch. Helmut Newton: Nudes

The exhibition "Saul Leiter. David Lynch. Helmut Newton: Nudes" at the Helmut Newton Foundation is devoted exclusively to nude photography.

About Saul Leiter

The American photographer and painter Saul Leiter also staged nudes in the studio parallel to his fashion photography. During his lifetime, these pictures were kept under lock and key, and only a few of his friends knew these silent and intimate black-and-white photographs. The female models were friends and/or lovers of the artist, who portrayed them in his New York apartment.

About David Lynch

David Lynch's nude photographs were mainly taken in Lodz and Los Angeles. Most of the pictures are in black and white, a few in color. They are abstract body images, often full-format details, which the viewer only associates with a human body at second glance. The American artist chose a large image format for his 25 photographs, which were compiled and enlarged exclusively for the Berlin exhibition.

About Helmut Newton

Helmut Newton created an incomparable work full of subtle seduction and timeless elegance - also and especially in the nude genre: Among them are portraits of naked people at swimming pools, sophisticated shots of naked mannequins and other fashion-based nudes, half-naked models with orthopedic support prostheses, or provocative stagings of sexual obsessions with a female cast. The current exhibition shows around 60 such works from some of his well-known exhibitions as well as around 40 previously unseen works from the Foundation's archive, including numerous original polaroids.
