On the second weekend of Advent, craftsmen and artists open their stalls at this atmospheric Christmas market around the old hunting lodge near Grunewald Lake.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this Christmas market gets visitors in the mood for the holidays. All around the historic Grunewald Hunting Lodge, market stalls sell large and small Christmas gifts, handmade decorations and jewelry, hot drinks and traditional delicacies. The scent of mulled wine wafts through the air and invites visitors to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
Much to the delight of children, actors dressed as fairytale characters can be found mingling among the crowd of visitors. A storyteller and live music will entertain young and older audiences. When it's finally time to go, even the way home will become a moment to remember when night watchmen in historical costumes accompany visitors to the parking lot and bus stop.
Built in 1542, Grunewald Hunting Lodge is Berlin's oldest palace building. These days, the palace houses an important collection of paintings both by Lucas Cranach the Younger and the Elder. The building's Hunting Depot informs about the history of hunting in the region.
