Friedrichsfelde Palace is located in the heart of the Tierpark Berlin. The former pleasure palace is now a museum and exhibits collections of the City Museum.
Friedrichsfelde Palace is located directly behind the entrance to the Tierpark. The 17th century palace is a popular sights with zoo visitors. A wide variety of events and concerts are regularly held inside the building.
Friedrichsfelde Palace was built in 1695 by the Dutch naval director Benjamin Raulé, probably according to plans by the architect Johann Arnold Nering. Three years later, the originally five-aisle pleasure house with garden became the property of the Elector, who gave it to Margrave Albrecht Friedrich of Brandenburg-Schwedt in 1717. During this time, Friedrichsfelde Palace was extended by three axes each and provided with a Baroque balustrade.
After changing hands several times, the palace finally came into the hands of the von Treskow family at the beginning of the 19th century. They ran an estate farm on the property and had a garden laid out by Peter Joseph Lenné in 1821. The house survived the Second World War relatively unscathed and was integrated into the zoo from 1955. Finally, the palace was renovated in the years 1970 to 1981. It has belonged to the zoo since January 2009.
