The old Café Kranzler was first opened in 1893 as the "Kleines Café". The café on the corner of Kurfürstendamm and Joachimstaler Straße was the first café in the west of Berlin. The building was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Café Kranzler, also known as Kranzler Eck, was rebuilt in its present form in 1958 by the architect Hanns Dustmann. With its striking rotunda and red and white awning, it quickly became a landmark in West Berlin. In the years that followed, the Kranzler Eck became a magnet for Berliners and visitors alike. After reunification, construction of the Neues Kranzler Eck district began according to the plans of the famous architect Helmut Jahn.
