Industrial climbers recover a child's bicycle from the aluminum artwork "Molecule Man" on the Spree. Why it was hanging there is a mystery.

Impressive and in the middle of the Spree: the monumental artwork Molecule Man rises 30 meters high out of the water in front of the Treptowers.

The metal sculpture Molecule Man by American artist Jonathan Borofsky was erected in the Spree between Elsenbrücke and Oberbaumbrücke in 1999. The location marks the point where the districts of Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Treptow meet.

Meaning of Molecule Man

Molecule Man consists of perforated aluminum plates and shows three human silhouettes that turn towards each other and meet in the middle. According to Borofsky, the holes in the aluminum represent "the molecules of all human beings coming together to create our existence."

Best view of the sculpture

The sculpture is easy to see from the two bridges, but also from Stralauer Allee, the Treptowers and the passing railroad line. The Berlin Molecule Man is part of a series. Similar sculptures can be found in Los Angeles and Council Bluffs (USA) as well as Wakefield (England).
