Finland has a population of just over 5.6 million and an estimated 3.5 million saunas - including home saunas, traditional public saunas, summer house saunas, tent saunas, mobile saunas on wheels, sauna rafts and everything in between. There is no one right way to build or use a sauna. The main thing is that it's hot!
The Finnish way of taking a sauna differs from many other sauna cultures precisely because of its free form: everyone is allowed to take a sauna in their own way. In the sauna, everyone is allowed to be who they are - everyone is equal in the sauna. The importance of the Finnish sauna tradition is also reflected in the fact that it was the first Finnish entry on UNESCO's Intangible World Heritage List.
Using photographs by Susa Junnola, Liisa Takala and Alexander Lembke, the exhibition "The sauna. Really hot. Really Finnish." offers an insight into today's Finnish sauna culture. Documentary videos are also shown. And, of course, you can also experience the real Finnish sauna up close and take a sauna yourself!
